Sonya Hartnett’s most recent novel is an enchanting fable. It tells the story of a young girl in search of a life full of love and beauty. One day she meets Feather, a strange young man who is always looking to the horizon. It is beautifully written with passages that transport the reader to another place and entice you to re-read pieces out loud for the sheer imagery they convey.

What I was by Meg Rosoff
This story is set in 1962 in coastal East Anglia (UK). The narrator is reminiscing about his school days where after being expelled from two schools he is placed at St.Oslwald’s, a dreary place where bullying is rife and meals of grey porridge are the norm. He meets a strange boy on the beach who is surviving outside the system, on his own in a shack. Our narrator falls in love and idolizes his new found friend. This story is about relationships, identity, who we are and what we become. It is lyrical, evocative and powerful.
Notes from the Teenage Underground by Simone Howell
Mira, Lo and Gem are great mates. Or are they? Finishing their end of year exams they seek to go ‘underground’. Their goal is to be extreme, debauched, anti-establishment and revolutionary. This is a fast paced novel about teenage relationships, where family fits in and the meaning of friendship. An edgy novel for older readers.
